About the Ride

๐Ÿšด The Challenge

In November 2025, I’ll be taking part in Ride Africa - a five-day endurance cycle across Kenya. Each day will mean long hours in the saddle, tough climbs, and the chance to experience the incredible landscapes of East Africa. But this ride is about far more than the miles. Every pedal stroke is in support of Child.org, a charity working to make pregnancy and childbirth safer for women and babies in Kenya.

๐ŸŒ About Child.org

Child.org is a UK-based international development charity with a clear mission: no mother, or her baby, should die from preventable causes. Their work focuses on maternal and child health in Kenya, where the earliest days of life remain the most dangerous for both mothers and newborns.

  • Pregnancy Support Groups (Team Mum): Child.org brings pregnant women together in small groups, led by trained health workers, to share life-saving information about pregnancy, birth, and newborn care.
  • Community Health Training: They work with local health promoters and government services to strengthen healthcare systems in rural and under-resourced areas.
  • Evidence-Based Impact: Their programmes are designed using the latest maternal health data, ensuring that interventions are effective and sustainable.

The results are already clear: in Narok County, where Child.org runs Team Mum groups, antenatal attendance has risen by 17%, and in one facility, hospital deliveries increased by 63% - meaning more women are giving birth with skilled support and fewer lives are lost.

❤️ Why It Matters

In sub-Saharan Africa, children are 15 times more likely to die in childhood than in Europe or North America. Many of these deaths are preventable with access to basic healthcare, information, and support. By funding Child.org’s work, we can help ensure that more women receive antenatal care, more babies are delivered safely, and more families thrive.

๐Ÿ’™ How You Can Help

My participation in this ride is supported by the Workers Beer Company, who have generously paid the fees and expenses - meaning every penny donated by you goes directly to Child.org’s programmes. Here’s how you can support:

  • Donate: Contribute directly via my JustGiving page ๐Ÿ‘ˆ
  • Share: Spread the word by sharing this blog and the fundraising link with friends, family, and colleagues.
  • Encourage: Every message of support helps keep the wheels turning during training and on the road in Kenya.

Together, we can turn miles into impact — creating safer pregnancies, healthier babies, and stronger communities.
