One Week To Go

✈️ One Week to Go: Nairobi Awaits!

It’s finally here — the last week before Ride Africa begins. Tomorrow I’ll be boarding my flight to Nairobi, and suddenly all those months of training, fundraising, and planning have come to this.

This week has been less about the training and more about the last-minute jobs, purchases and admin that come before the adventure: restocking on contact lenses, checking in for flights, arranging hotel pickups, and triple‑checking that my kit bag isn’t overweight. Packing has become a four-dimensional puzzle: cycling gear, meds, recovery essentials, and enough casual clothes for the evenings. I’ve also been in touch with a CrossFit gym in Mombasa to keep the training routine alive next week - because I haven't done enough burpees over the last 10 months 😂

It’s these small, practical tasks that make the excitement tangible. Each email confirmation, each folded jersey, each checklist tick is a reminder that tomorrow I’ll be stepping off a plane in Nairobi, ready to explore a new city and soak up the atmosphere before the real challenge begins.

Behind the logistics, though, is the reason I'm writing this and you're reading it. Every mile I ride supports Child.org’s work to improve maternal and infant health in Kenya. The admin might feel mundane (although I do love the feeling of ticking things off my master list!), but it’s the gateway to something extraordinary: five days of cycling across breathtaking landscapes, raising funds that will help mothers and babies access the care they need.

🎶 Add Your Track to My Playlist

One thing that will keep me motivated through the long Kenyan miles is music. I’ve set up a public Spotify playlist where friends, family, and supporters can add tracks that will power me along the route.

Whether it’s an old rave anthem that'll make me pick up the pace, a guilty pleasure that will have the whole group singing along with me, something uplifting for when the legs are burning, or something totally unexpected, I’d love you to contribute.

Every song added will be a reminder of the community behind me - and I get to think of the person who chose it when it comes on mid‑ride.

And so here we are: seven days until the ride starts, one day until Nairobi. Bags packed (mostly), playlists ready and waiting, and a head full of anticipation. The next update will come from Kenya itself and I can’t wait to share the journey with you.
